White Pines – Trim the Tree

Standard

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know I LOVE Flip Flaps!  Today I have a super cute way to display photos of some of the decorations you use at Christmas time.

Trim the Tree Flip Flap Page

I’m not happy with the centre bottom photo but have to wait until Dec 25 to re-shoot it 🙂

All the Flip Flaps come from the Small Assortment pack (Z1747).  They are attached to the OUTSIDE of the page protector.  Begin at the bottom and work your way up.  I found the easiest way to do this was to place the empty page protector on my Versamat so I could see the gridlines through it.  This helped to centre the design and keep the rows even.

Trim the Tree Flip Flap Page

When all the flaps are flipped you see my beautiful family enjoying last Christmas.  The photo of the tree is stuck to the White Pines paper (Z7200B)  inside the protector.  I created the photo mat & title using the Artbooking Cricut Cartridge.

Super easy and lots of fun.  No-one can resist the urge to flip those flaps and discover what they are hiding.

Order your Flip Flaps here.

Like a kit with the Flip Flaps, page protector, White Pines paper, pre cut photo frame and a BONUS tree cut you can place behind the main photo?  I can do that for you – just $12 plus postage.  Email shaunnarichards@bigpond.com and we’ll get it organised.

Make It From Your Heart

Standard

I attended Close To My Heart’s annual convention last weekend.  It was such a happy and information packed weekend.  I’ll share highlights over the coming weeks but today I wanted to show you the prize winning layout made!

All consultants attending the event were invited to enter this page layout contest.  Our brief was to use products from our current range and include the phrase “Make it from your heart” in the title.

With Spring well and truly sprung my gorgeous hubby has been busy in the garden and that got me to thinking.  I love pulling in to our driveway.  The garden Mike has created is just beautiful – so welcoming and an oasis in our dry climate.  I am so appreciative that he creates beauty in this way.  He loves gardening.  It is a work of heart for him.

MIFYH

The actual layout is pretty simple.  Just a 6″ strip of Kaleidoscope paper (X7202B) across the middle of the page, stitched borders either side with Whisper Twine (Z3095) and the stitch ruler (Z1852) and photos on cardstock mounts.  The fun part comes when you add the hearts!

I began by cutting a full sheet of 1.5″ hearts from White Daisy Cardstock.  I used the Art Philosophy cartridge (Z3171) with my Cricut.

6x4 Facebook posts - Page 001

I arranged about half the cut hearts in the Confetti Embossing Folder (Z3118) and put it through my Cuttlebug.  Before embossing the other half of the hearts, I ran the Pixie inkpad (Z2644) over the inside of the embossing folder (the piece with CTMH logo on the front).  When I opened the folder the ink had transferred to the flat parts of the design and left the dots white.

6x4 Facebook posts - Page 002

Lastly, I arranged the hearts as shown in the layout, keeping the pink ones centred on the layout and following the design of the confetti folder with densely spaced dots lower on the page.

My title was stamped with two alphabets – Jennifer’s Hand (B1484) and Inked Alphabet (E1033).

There were around 50 entries in the competition and I was chosen as one of 10 people to win a $100 product bundle!  I was pretty excited I can tell you.

Sangria – The back story to a photo

Standard

As always with old photos, there is a back story not immediately obvious on first viewing of the photo.  When I found the photo on the left hand page I just thought it was a happy family snap of mum’s relatives and then I realised the significance of it.  This was the last photo taken before mum embarked on a full day’s journey to join dad in New Guinea.  She must have been filled with mixed emotions leaving Melbourne for the first time to go to some wild place!

She really was the adventurous one in her family and often lived the addage, “Face your fear and do it anyway”.

Sept 2 pages - Page 009

This layout was made using the Sangria Workshop on the Go (G1097).  The stamp set that comes in this kit is pretty gorgeous.  Almost every stamp on the sheet gets used in this layout!  Full cutting guides and instructions are included in the kit.

Here’s the card I made with the scraps.

Sept cards - Page 008The Sangria Workshop on the Go is just $44 and is valued at $63.50.  You receive full colour instructions for 2 layouts and there is enough paper in the pack to make 4-8 pages PLUS 4-8 cards from the scraps AND you get to keep the stamp set forever.  It is great value for money.

Sangria is our featured collection throughout October.  That means we will be created with it in my workshops. You can also see lots of layouts, cards and paper crafting on social media.  I’ll feature several projects here throughout the month and you can view lots of great ideas on the official Close To My Heart Blog, Facebook page and Instagram, @ctmhofficial . Perth has a lovely museum with a really quaint cafe.  We like to sit outdoors amongst all the upcycled bits and bobs.

Sangria hop

I really enjoyed making this page.  It was fun combining the different patterns of the B&T papers with the cardstock. The background frame was made by using rectangles trimmed back to just a border.  The 12″ Trimmer (Z1783) is perfect for the job.

Sangria Blog Hop Background PaperSangria Blog Hop - Page 002Next up were the flags.  I wanted to add texture to the cardstock by embossing the strips but the OCD in me needed the patterns to match perfectly from one strip to the next.  Washi tape to the rescue!  Once they were taped together I could feed them through the embossing folder easily.

Sangria Blog Hop - Page 005I actually took these photos with the Treats of Friendship (C1616) stamp set in mind – I know – I’ve got it bad 🙂  I love the example of the teacup coloured with watercolour paints shown on p45 of the Annual Inspirations catalogue and wanted to replicate it.

Sangria Blog Hop - Page 004Working on an All Purpose Mat (Z2075) kept my table clean.  It also meant I could dab my brush on the mat if I had too much paint on it and then go back to pick up more when I was adding shading. I found the watercolours really easy to use.

Sangria Blog Hop - Page 003Once I was placing the teacups on the page I realised the tea bags had to go because my photo was a pot of real tea.  A quick snip made it painless.

Sangria papers, assortment and compliments can be  ordered from your CTMH Consultant . It’s our featured collection all month so keep your eye out for more inspiration throughout October.

Sangria – Perfect for Black & White photos

Standard

I’ve been working with more of Mum & Dad’s old photos recently.  I can’t believe how gorgeous they look with the Sangria papers.

Sangria CollectionThis is my take one of the layouts I taught at yesterday’s Scrap Happy Class. It’s a great layout for old photos because I didn’t have to crop them – the background tells us so much about where we lived at the time. The layout also provides LOTS of room for journalling.

These photos were taken in Wau, New Guinea.  I have not had an opportunity to visit again since leaving as a 7 yr old and so my kids haven’t seen where I began life.  These photos help tell that story.

Sangria Complements(X7199C) have lots of family oriented titles which suited my theme perfectly.

View the Sangria collection here.  If you live in Perth, why don’t you come play at our Paper Picnic on October 24 – I’ll have lots more cool pages to show you.

Australasian October Stamp of the Month Blog Hop – Twinkle S1510

Standard

Blog BadgeWelcome to the October Stamp of the Month Australasian Blog Hop.  This is a circular hop.  If you arrived from Vandra’s Blog you are in the right place. Simply read through this post and click on the link to the next blog at the end of it.  Keep reading and ‘hopping’ until you find yourself back where you started from.  Each blog will showcase a project featuring the Twinkle (S1510) stamp set which is October’s Stamp of the Month.

At first glance, you could be forgiven for thinking this is a Christmas stamp set.  But look closely and there are some cool ‘all occassion’ stamps hiding there.

S1510 TwinkleI’m up to date with my Christmas photos so I made a layout of the Chinese New Year parade in Sydney this year.  I chose the Sangria Papers for the lovely red shades which go so well with the theme of photos and stamps.

Twinkle blog hop - Page 003The little frames were the perfect size for my title stamped with the NEW alphabet, Jennifer’s Hand (B1484)  The letters are just 1/2″ high.  The small cluster of stars made a pretty background and the ring of stars really popped when I heat embossed it with gold powder (Z2066).  The Campagne square was dry embossed with our new Confetti Stars (Z3119) Embossing Folder.

This really was such a fun parade and I took heaps of photos.  I loved this layout so decided to make it expand with the use of Flip Flaps.

12" Flip Flaps are amazing

12″ Flip Flaps are amazing

By adding 2 of the 6″ deep Flip Flaps I effectively added 2 pages to this layout without needing lots of extra decoration.  A 4″ x 6″ Flip Flap on the LH page was the perfect spot for the last few photos I wanted to include.
