Nov SOTM

I know we have 2 full months to go of 2015 but it’s time to start thinking about your goals and dreams for the new year.

I recently attended the Close To My Heart Australasian Convention.  We talked about goal setting for our business and were set some challenges for the next 3 months.  I have set my own, much higher goals and wanted a way to keep a visual reminder of these goals for the next 12 months.  Here it is.

Tahiti Goals

If I meet the goals I’ve set myself, Mike & I will earn an all expenses paid trip to Tahiti.  I loved going to Hawaii this year – Close To My Heart sure know how to spoil a girl.

I used the Paper Fundamentals for this layout.  There are 4 packs – Enchantment (Z3126), Adventure (Z3125), Whimsy (Z3127) and Basic (Z3128).  I love that one side of the paper is embossed and shiny while the other side is matte and features a subtle pattern.

The tags you can see are tucked behind the challenge cards we received at convention.  I used 3″ square Flip Flaps to make a pocket for the tag to slide in and out of.  The “I Can” phrase is heat embossed with silver and the Base & Bling charms are attached with Thick Twine.

Here’s how I made the hidden pockets…

Flip Flap hidden pockets

Begin with a 3″ x 3″ Flip Flap from the Small Assortment pack (Z1747).  Cut off the tab with the adhesive strip.

Nov SOTM - Page 002

Attach the Flip Flap firmly to the back of your challenge card (or photo).  Add adhesive around all edges of the Flip Flap and attach to your photo mount.

Flip Flap hidden pockets

You now have a pocket made of plastic for the tag to slip into.

Flip Flap hidden pockets

I stamped the lines and the banner from the Cheers, 2016! stamp set and hand wrote my title.  The letters are for each month.  At the end of the month I will record my final figures and see if my goal was achieved.

Cheers, 2016! (S1511) is only available during November, 2015.  Full retail price is $27 but you can have this gorgeous set for just $7.50 when accompanied by a $75 order. Place your order with your CTMH Consultant.

Did you like this layout? I’d love you to leave a comment for me before you click on the underlined link and move on to Lauren’s Blog , CTMH Craftings, to see what she has designed for you.

‘Four Squares’ Scrapbook Layout

Standard

Creating texture with embossing folders is so easy!  It transforms plain cardstock into something wonderful.  In this layout I started with 3 plain cardstock colours (Whisper, Bamboo & Lagoon) and one Paper Fundamentals (Bamboo) sheet. I cut 4, 2″ squares from each piece and used a variety of embossing folders on the plain cardstock.

Trim your photos to 2", 4" or 6" and they will work with this design

Trim your photos to 2″, 4″ or 6″ and they will work with this design

The Chevron Border Punch created a line to hold it all together and I kept the embellishments simple in the top left corner of the page.  My journaling will go under the BFF Cricut cut.

What photos and colours will you use to duplicate this pages?

Small Squares Scrapbook Layout

Standard

A few weeks ago I participated in a Facebook Virtual Crop.  It was lots of fun ‘cropping’ with consultants all over Australia via the internet.  During the course of the weekend we were given page challenges to complete.  The lovely ladies who organised the event have given permission for me to share these challenges with you!  Big thanks to Bernadette Lewin, Karen Page and Lynda Yeadon.  Here is the second sketch we worked from, “Small Squares” by Karen Page…

I was excited to win a prize for this entry and really happy with the way it looked.  You will love the simplicity of this layout.  It gives you lots of freedom for photo placement.

Classic Doily

Standard

I fell in love with this stamp as soon as I saw it in the catalogue.  It’s called Classic Doily (B1424) and it does remind me of hand embroidery.  I was playing with our new heat embossing powders and thought this stamp embossed with gold would look pretty special.  It does!  But you will have to believe me because I forgot to photograph it before I did the next step… colouring it in.  I had planned to keep one plain but the colours of the Shin Han Touch Twin Markers are so gorgeous I couldn’t stop colouring.

Shin Han Marker

I began with 3 blue markers and then chose 2 neutrals to go with them plus the red for a highlight.  I just used straight colouring – no shading or fancy stuff.  I also left a few sections white for contrast.

Shin Han Marker

For each card I used a different colour scheme.  The doily has the look of mosaics and I love how it appears a little different in each colour way.  To make the cards I used Black from the Basics Paper Fundamentals pack(Z1939) to frame the doily and then a co-ordinating cardstock.  The red, green and purple are from Paper Fundamentals and the Blue & Pink are plain cardstock dry embossed using the Floral Embossing folder (Z1994).  Gold shimmer trim (Z1985)  and Bling Gems Gold Assortment (Z2023) added a bit of pop.

Shin Han Markers

Shin Han Markers used:                                                                                                                                  Red Card:  Barely Beige, Pastel Green, Golden Yellow, Marigold, Carmine                                                         Blue Card: Pastel Peach, Turquoise Blue, Cerulean Blue, Marine Blue, Warm Grey 4,Carmine                    Pink Card: Barely Beige, Pastel Peach, Mahogany, Black, Carmine                                                          Green Card:   Pastel Green, Leaf Green, Vivid Green, Sap Green, Bronze, Carmine                                 Purple Card: Barely Beige, Tender Pink, Peony Purple, Lavender, Clay, Carmine

This design would adapt beautifully to a scrapbook page.  I have some photos from a mosque I need to print to use with this stamp.  What photos would you team it with?

Goofy’s Orchestra

Standard

Whilst visiting California Adventure we came across Goofy conducting an imaginary orchestra.  He was very funny and then I realised the fountains behind him were synchronised with the music.  Very cool.  I just had to dedicate a page to his antics.

Goofy's Orchestra

This layout is based on one called, appropriately, “Performance”.  You will find it on p48 of the CTMH Magic How To book. (9040) The papers are this month’s featured collection – Paper Fundamentals and these colours come from the Adventure Assortment pack (Z2032)

6x4 Facebook posts - Page 007

I cut the border on my Cricut and used white enamel stars (Z2010).  They got a bit lost on the page so I coloured them in with my Shin Han Markers – much happier with that now!

6x4 Facebook posts - Page 008

I am more than a little bit in love with the Chevron Border Punch (Z1998) and just had to add it to this page too.  I cut strips 1/4″ wide to thread through the border and give it a different look.  The white stars got a make over again – in red this time.

6x4 Facebook posts - Page 006

I thought the page was finished at this point but there was a dead spot in the lower left corner.  A quick flick through the Cricut Artbooking booklet and I found the perfect embellishment.  Isn’t this Ferris wheel so cute?  Did you know you can get a Cricut cartridge for half price as a hostess?  All you need are a couple of friends who want to make a card or page, $300 in orders and you qualify!  Click here or more information on the awesome rewards you can earn as a hostess.

Warm Fuzzies Door Hanger

Standard

Have you ever read or heard the story of ‘Warm Fuzzies’?  When I was a teacher I would read this story to my class and have everyone decorate a paper bag with pictures & words relating to their personality.  Througout the day, other students would write a small note of encouragement or affirmation and secretly slip it into the bag. This was a “Warm Fuzzy”.  You should have seen the delight on their faces when their bag had a warm fuzzy in it.  The kids would go out of their way to see good things in each other so everyone recieved a warm fuzzy each day.

Paper Fundamentals Door Hanger

I was reminded of this story when I made this cute door hanger using the Artiste Cartridge for the Cricut and realised it had a pocket.  Wouldn’t it be fun to make one for each bedroom in your house and encourage the exchange of warm fuzzies?  Grandies could have them on doors for when the little ones visit.

Click here to read the original story by Claude M. Steiner or here to read an adaptation of it.  I have never run out of warm fuzzies and I get so many in return.  I hope you do too.

Artistic Adventure Begins

Standard

It was so exciting to be part of the North American CTMH Convention in June.  The stage looked gorgeous and changed each day.  Mandy & I were able to have a quick photo on it the first day.  I wanted a simple layout for these photos as it marks the beginning of the Convention chapter in my album.

Artistic Adventure

The focus is on the Paper Fundamentals range in all my classes this month and this page features the Adventure Assortment (Z2032) of these papers.  I just love the happy colours in it and chose Lagoon, Honey, Sunset and Crystal Blue for the layout.  Crystal Blue is in the Whimsy pack… it just snuck onto the page and had to stay!  You will find the pattern and instructions for this page in Make It From Your Heart, Vol 2: Pattern 4 (Left page)

Artisitc Adventure - Page 003

I wanted the embellishments to be ‘soft’ for this layout.  The Brushed Complements (X7190C) were perfect.  Not only did the colours work with the photos and cardstock, but the stickers are actually vellum so they blended nicely on the page.  When I wanted them to stand out a bit more, I layered them on White Daisy Cardstock and fussy cut around them.

Artisitc Adventure - Page 002

I was making this page at a consultant crop event and one of the ladies said, “It’s a shame we don’t have Green Shimmer Trim.”  I thought about the fact we can colour clear sparkles with our Alcohol markers and wondered aloud if we could do the same to Silver Shimmer Trim.  The answer is “YES”.  That led to some playing and all 3 of these shimmer trims are  silver, coloured with alcohol markers.  Neat isn’t it?

My tips would be to press lightly using the chisel tip end of the markers and go over it more than once.  Blot off excess ink with a scrap of paper before placing on your page.  Run your pen on scrap paper to be sure no specks of glitter are caught in it’s fibres.

Big Kids

Standard

Our USA convention for Close To My Heart was held in Disneyland, California.  A good friend and sister consultant, Mandy Ellery, travelled with me for the event.  We added some time either side for fun.  This page shows how brave we were going on the Tea Cups ride in Fantasyland.  Neither of us like scary rides so we decided to be big kids and do all the tame rides.

Big Kids

The newly released Paper Fundamentals are proving the perfect accompaniment for these photos.  Their bright, shiny side adds some zing to the layout and the patterned side adds highlights.  This layout features Juniper and Thistle, a new colour, from the Whimsy Assortment pack (Z2033)  Click here to see all the papers in the Fundamentals range.

You will find full instructions and cutting diagrams for this layout on page 20-21 of the Cherish How To Book (9038).  My title was stamped using the Framework Alphabet stamps(E1027) which I coloured with the NEW Shin Han Alcohol Markers. The Peony Purple (Z2462) was a perfect colour match for Thistle and then I layered two colours to create the Juniper colour in the title – Pastel Green (z2459) and Turquoise Blue (Z2465)

Duchess Retreat Page

Standard

I had the great pleasure of running my 12th Annual Duchess Retreat for 24 ladies this past weekend.  My sister runs it with me and we treasure this time together. We proclaimed ourselves Duchesses 12 years ago when we decided our camp would be based on a series of challenges, like the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.  The challenges can be simple but there are always a couple that stretch croppers skills just a little (or a lot if you ask some!).

I look forward to this weekend of creating, laughter and hijinks as much as my customers and team members do and always arrive home on a high, love cup overflowing and so thankful to have such fabulous women in my life.

IMAG1146

This year my good friend, Rose, was our chef and we enjoyed homemade gourmet treats all weekend.  Friday night is always Frock Night and the ladies excelled this year, scouring op shops across Australia for frocks with just the right level of hilarity.

IMAG1147

I kept the layout simple so the Duchess outfits could shine.  You will notice 2 products that aren’t in the current ideas book.  The Better with a Friend Stamp Set is in our NEW Ideas Book launching August 1 and is one of the Exclusive Hostess Rewards stamps.  These glamorous gals are coloured using the blending pen (3174) and Exclusive Inks.  I’d love to show you how.  Why not invite a few friends over for a free class to play with this set and then you can purchase this stamp set with your Hostess Reward dollars.

IMAG1148

The other new product on the page is the Chevron Border Punch (Z1998).  This was a firm favourite over the weekend.  A strip of shimmer trim behind it really adds some zing to the page. Click here to see all the shimmer trim colours available. Be sure to check out my website on August 1 to view the online Ideas Book & Catalogue. http://shaunnarichards.ctmh.com.au

If you would like to see the range of new products, we’d welcome your attendance at our Perth New Product Launch and crafty afternoon this coming Saturday.  Comment below or contact me for address details.  You are most welcome to bring a friend.

Freo Architecture

Standard

We just love walking around cities and looking up – all sorts of architectural delights await when you raise your eyes above the shop fronts.

8x4 Blog double page photos - Page 002

For this layout I chose the Paper Fundamentals Basic Assortment Papers (Z1939).  They have a monotone, glossy resist pattern on one side a pattern on the other.  Both sides accept ink around the edges.

6x4 Facebook posts - Page 003

I accented my page with Wood Grain Washi tape (Z1930).  For this effect, simply stick a little down, double a bit onto itself and then stick the next little bit down.  It’s another technique where perfection is not required – it looks better if it’s a little uneven.

6x4 Facebook posts - Page 002

The title was cut on the Cricut.  These letters are cut from the circle so it’s easy to add them to the page.

This month you can purchase a Delightful Ribbon & Trim Collection which includes 6 rolls of Washi Tape and other fun embellishments for just $30 with a $75 order.  The Washi Tape alone is worth $47 and we will be using it at Duchess Retreat this year.  I’ll also be featuring these products in my Strips and Stripes workshop on July 9.  Comment below if you need details for either event.
