Classic Doily

I fell in love with this stamp as soon as I saw it in the catalogue.  It’s called Classic Doily (B1424) and it does remind me of hand embroidery.  I was playing with our new heat embossing powders and thought this stamp embossed with gold would look pretty special.  It does!  But you will have to believe me because I forgot to photograph it before I did the next step… colouring it in.  I had planned to keep one plain but the colours of the Shin Han Touch Twin Markers are so gorgeous I couldn’t stop colouring.

Shin Han Marker

I began with 3 blue markers and then chose 2 neutrals to go with them plus the red for a highlight.  I just used straight colouring – no shading or fancy stuff.  I also left a few sections white for contrast.

Shin Han Marker

For each card I used a different colour scheme.  The doily has the look of mosaics and I love how it appears a little different in each colour way.  To make the cards I used Black from the Basics Paper Fundamentals pack(Z1939) to frame the doily and then a co-ordinating cardstock.  The red, green and purple are from Paper Fundamentals and the Blue & Pink are plain cardstock dry embossed using the Floral Embossing folder (Z1994).  Gold shimmer trim (Z1985)  and Bling Gems Gold Assortment (Z2023) added a bit of pop.

This design would adapt beautifully to a scrapbook page.  I have some photos from a mosque I need to print to use with this stamp.  What photos would you team it with?

I’ve missed these faces!

YAY! Reunited with our gorgeous daughter and her boyfriend after 3 months apart.  They have been having the time of their lives volunteering with a group called Soft Power Education in Uganda.  We’ve followed their blog and chatted on Skype but it’s just not the same as having a hug!  I plan to make the most of  my time with them over the next 2 weeks we have together.

Here’s those little journal box and travel log stamps again from the Wanderful WOTG kit.  I added the cute heart cluster from the Family is Forever SOTM.  The Candy Cane Cardstock was dry embossed using the Arrow Embossing folder (Z1993)

I had a lot of fun playing with our NEW Heat Embossing powders.  I used the Silver Embossing Powder for my title block, the ‘Happy’ on the banner and for the little birds.  These adorable birds can be found in the Happy Birds stamp set (C1600)

Family is Forever

I wanted to practise blending with the Shin Han Markers and the birds were a nice small project to do it on.  I found a useful video created by a North American CTMH Consultant, Brae Montgomery, on YouTube which helped me a lot.  Click here to watch it.

Colouring in is so much fun!

I have always joked that my teaching degree was a Diploma in cutting and colouring.  I studied in the pre-computer age and majored in early childhood education so I made a LOT of charts in my day.  I LOVED it and always found colouring so restful.  It’s good to know some things don’t change.  With the introduction of the Shin Han Touch Twin Markers this month I can get my colouring fix once again.

What a Hoot SOTM & Shin Han Markers

The markers come in 24 colours, feature a fine tip and a chisel tip on each pen and are blendable.  You have the choice to colour in the colour as it comes or mix up an endless palate of shades using the Colourless Blender marker.  A colouring in class with your friends is great fun, contact me to make a date.  It’s a good one to have kids join in on so perfect for a mums and kids class in the school holidays.  I have dates available in the 2nd week of WA holidays.  Oh and did I mention you can use your Hostess Credits to order the markers FREE?

This card was perfect for me to practise blending colours.  The What a Hoot Stamp of the Month is gorgeous and I love this little card that I will be sending to a friend later this month.

Goofy’s Orchestra

Whilst visiting California Adventure we came across Goofy conducting an imaginary orchestra.  He was very funny and then I realised the fountains behind him were synchronised with the music.  Very cool.  I just had to dedicate a page to his antics.

Goofy's Orchestra

This layout is based on one called, appropriately, “Performance”.  You will find it on p48 of the CTMH Magic How To book. (9040) The papers are this month’s featured collection – Paper Fundamentals and these colours come from the Adventure Assortment pack (Z2032)

I cut the border on my Cricut and used white enamel stars (Z2010).  They got a bit lost on the page so I coloured them in with my Shin Han Markers – much happier with that now!

I am more than a little bit in love with the Chevron Border Punch (Z1998) and just had to add it to this page too.  I cut strips 1/4″ wide to thread through the border and give it a different look.  The white stars got a make over again – in red this time.

I thought the page was finished at this point but there was a dead spot in the lower left corner.  A quick flick through the Cricut Artbooking booklet and I found the perfect embellishment.  Isn’t this Ferris wheel so cute?  Did you know you can get a Cricut cartridge for half price as a hostess?  All you need are a couple of friends who want to make a card or page, $300 in orders and you qualify!  Click here or more information on the awesome rewards you can earn as a hostess.

Artistic Adventure Begins

It was so exciting to be part of the North American CTMH Convention in June.  The stage looked gorgeous and changed each day.  Mandy & I were able to have a quick photo on it the first day.  I wanted a simple layout for these photos as it marks the beginning of the Convention chapter in my album.

Artistic Adventure

The focus is on the Paper Fundamentals range in all my classes this month and this page features the Adventure Assortment (Z2032) of these papers.  I just love the happy colours in it and chose Lagoon, Honey, Sunset and Crystal Blue for the layout.  Crystal Blue is in the Whimsy pack… it just snuck onto the page and had to stay!  You will find the pattern and instructions for this page in Make It From Your Heart, Vol 2: Pattern 4 (Left page)

Artisitc Adventure - Page 003

I wanted the embellishments to be ‘soft’ for this layout.  The Brushed Complements (X7190C) were perfect.  Not only did the colours work with the photos and cardstock, but the stickers are actually vellum so they blended nicely on the page.  When I wanted them to stand out a bit more, I layered them on White Daisy Cardstock and fussy cut around them.

Artisitc Adventure - Page 002

I was making this page at a consultant crop event and one of the ladies said, “It’s a shame we don’t have Green Shimmer Trim.”  I thought about the fact we can colour clear sparkles with our Alcohol markers and wondered aloud if we could do the same to Silver Shimmer Trim.  The answer is “YES”.  That led to some playing and all 3 of these shimmer trims are  silver, coloured with alcohol markers.  Neat isn’t it?

My tips would be to press lightly using the chisel tip end of the markers and go over it more than once.  Blot off excess ink with a scrap of paper before placing on your page.  Run your pen on scrap paper to be sure no specks of glitter are caught in it’s fibres.

When is an owl not an owl?

When it’s a cat!

This clever idea is one shared by a fellow consultant, Doris Taylor, at a recent consultant crop day.  Having a tendency to crazy cat lady behaviours myself, I couldn’t resist making up a couple for this card.  I plan to send it to a lady I have recently met – I know we are going to become firm friends.

What a Hoot CTMH Aug SOTM

To create the cat you need the August Stamp of the Month, What a Hoot (S1408).

This gorgeous stamp set can be yours for just $5 when accompanied by a $75 order or $27 full retail price and is available during August 2014 only.  To make the outline for the cat’s body I cut my stamp. “Ahhh!”, I hear you scream… but  it’s OK.  If I want to use it as an owl I can position the two pieces on my block and still have an owl stamp. (Or place another order for $75 and get a second stamp set  )

What A Hoot, CTMH Aug SOTM

Next I drew a tail and went over the lines a few times to mimic the doodle qualities of the stamp and then I fussy cut the whole cat, added face details with markers and they were purr-fect pussy cats.  The flowers come from the same stamp set as the owls.  I coloured them with my lovely NEW Shin Han Alcohol Markers.  The sentiment is from A Budding Friendship (D1602) The orange band at the bottom of the card is just 2 strips of our NEW Sunset Chevron Washi Tape (Z2005)

I have several other critter ideas I’ll be sharing at my Paper Picnic on Saturday Aug 16.  The workshop runs from 10am to 4.30pm.  Contact me for further details
