A thank you card can brighten someone’s day, letting them know small acts of kindness are appreciated.  Who can you think of that could do with this kind of affirmation?

One design four ways

My list of people to thank is long at the moment so I wanted a quick way to make several cards.  I did want to individualise them a little too so I didn’t get bored!

Each of the four cards featured in this post is based on Pattern 2 in Make It From Your Heart Vol 4.  This how to book has sketches and cutting measurements for 24 different cards.  There are also two samples of completed cards shown for each pattern.  It is my absolute go to for cards in a hurry.

Use both sides of paper

When cutting pieces remember that printed papers have different patterns on each side and Close To My Heart cardstock is two toned – light on one side, dark on the other.

This makes it easy to have your cards look different even thought the basic design is the same.

Change the shape of the sentiment box

Another super easy way to change the look of this card is to use different shapes for the sentiment box.  The first card uses a simple rectangle and the other three use different bracket thin cuts.

Choose a single shape or layer a smaller shape on a larger one.

So many Thank You’s to choose from

This stamp set has many different fonts and sizes of words on it along with those gorgeous shapes.  This means you can always find a stamp to fit your chosen sentiment box.  This is a must have set in your collection for this reason alone.

Add a bow just for fun

How cute is that dimensional bow?  This is the small bow thin cuts.  There is also a big one.  They are so very easy to make using the dies, a bone folder and glue dots.  Add the complete bow, just the tails or just the top segment to get different effects on your cards.

Decorate your envelopes

It’s always fun to add some stamping to your envelopes.  Decorate the back flap if it is going in the post so your stamping doesn’t mess with the sorting machine scanners.  If it’s a hand delivered card, use one of the shape stamps where a postage stamp would go.

Order your Stamp of the Month

Every Thank You (S2101) is only available during January, 2021.  Full retail price is $34 but VIP’s can have this gorgeous set FREE when accompanied by an $80 order. If you are not a VIP, you will pay $9 with a qualifying order.  But seriously…check out Close To My Heart’s VIP program first!  Place your order with your Close To My Heart Consultant.

Happiness Never Grows old when we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new life.  This layout celebrates the growing ‘bump’ soon to arrive in our family.

Take photos each month of your pregnancy

During each of my pregnancies, I had a monthly photo taken.  These photos began each of the baby albums and my kids loved seeing them.  Now my daughter is having a baby, she is keen to see how I looked carrying her and she is recording her bump’s progress.

Beautiful blooms go hand in hand with pregnancy photos

Create a beautiful 3” stamped strip for your page using December 2020’s Stamp of the Month, Happiness Never Grows Old (S2012) along with the beautiful Floral Alphabet set (E1059) and Wood Grain Paper (X8017).

Begin with two 3” x 12” strips of wood grain paper and random stamp the two large flower clusters in Espresso ink.  Fill any gaps with individual leaves and flowers.  Colour with Tr-Blend Markers but don’t do lots of shading as the espresso ink may run if it gets too wet.  I used the lightest shade of Antique Pink (Z2529) and the medium shade of Light Green (Z2485)

Create a banner using the Floral Alphabet and add extra words using Melissa Esplin stamps and Story by Stacey alphabet stickers.  ‘Happiness’ is from the stamp of the month – either cut the stamp apart or mask to exclude the rest of the phrase.

Make your journal box a feature on the layout

Decorating a 4” x 6” piece of cardstock is a fun way to create a focal point on your layout.  This beautiful image is from the Baby Bump Stamp Set (B1706).  You will find it in the Online Only section of my shop.  Colour it to match the mum to be and finish the box with pen work outlines and stamped journalling lines.

Add a faux layer to the outside of your pages

Here’s a tip if you love the look of layered borders on your pages but don’t like to use extra full sheets of layouts.  Trim 1/8” strips of paper and stoick on top of the base page to give the illusion of a frame.  In this case, I cut two horizontally from one sheet of the wood grain paper and two vertically from a second sheet.

Welcome to the CTMH Australasian Comfort & Joy Blog Hop.  This hop features the artwork of some talented women from across Australia and New Zealand.

If you arrived from Doris’ Blog, Creative Inspirations, you are in the right place.  If this is your first time on a blog hop, simply read on and enjoy my creations.  Click on the link at the end of this post and it will take you to the next blog and so on and so on. Easy and fun! Best part- you can see several different projects you can create with Close To My Heart’s Comfort & Joy collection!   When you land back here, you are done and it’s time to hit the scrapbook room for some crafting fun.

Connect through Christmas Cards

This year, more than in recent times, we need to reach out to those we love.  Share kindness and let people know they are in our thoughts.  A handmade card posted for Christmas is a perfect way to do this.

Close To My Heart’s Comfort & Joy collection is available for purchase until the end of October 2020. View the range at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au

I encourage you to get started early so your international cards are in the post in plenty of time to compensate for delays in delivery due to flight shortages.  A postcard I sent from Western Australia to the USA recently took 7 weeks to arrive!

Next up, set a Nov 30 deadline to have your cards for interstate Australian friends completed.  Cards between Perth and Melbourne are currently taking 14 days to arrive.  I’m sure this will blow out the closer we get to Christmas.

Close To My Heart’s Comfort & Joy collection is available for purchase until the end of October 2020. View the range at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au

Sending cards early also means your friends and family get to have them on display for longer – a regular reminder that you are thinking of them.

Comfort & Joy Papers

The Comfort & Joy papers feature traditional Christmas colours mixed with some black.  There are subtle and bold patterns making them perfect for card making.

Use Make It From Your Heart Volume 4

This volume of How to Patterns is filled with card designs.  All the measurements are included and 2 examples of completed cards are shown for each pattern.  All 6 of today’s cards are made from these patterns, using the photos as inspiration.

Use stamps in different ways

Three stamp sets are combined to make these six cards.  Once I had one of each design made, it was easy to duplicate them to use up my full pack of paper, cardstock and glitter paper

Order your supplies

The Comfort & Joy collection is available, while stocks last, until the end of October, 2020.   You can order papers, co-ordinating cardstock, PML Cards and 2 stamp/thin cut sets individually.  There is also a card workshop kit and a scrapbooking workshop kit for those who enjoy more decorative layouts. Photo Collage prints add fun to your scrapbook pages

It’s fun to make a quick collage for a social media post.  Why not print it for your album too?  It was the quickest way I could think of the get these 25 silly snaps all on one page!

Stamp on a Heart Shaker Window

It’s easy to get a clear stamped image on the shaker window acetate using StazOn ink.  This ink is specially designed for use on non-porous surfaces.  Be sure to clean the stamp with StazOn cleaner for best results.

The little hearts inside the shaker were cut with the new Heart Shaker Window thin cuts – don’t you just love the thin outline hearts?  Mix in some tiny gold star confetti for fun.

Create heart bullet points for journalling

Writing on narrow strips of paper lets the patterned background show through and makes your story an integral part of the design.  The tiny hearts are perfect as bullet points and the toffee shimmer brush highlights key words to draw the reader’s eye.

Summer Vibes – Sunshiny colours to brighten your day

The more I create with this collection, the more I appreciate the colour choices in it.  There is a nice mix of bold prints and colours with more subtle designs.  It will showcase any of your summertime photos perfectly but is also great for travel, family and sports themes.

Everything old is new again

Do you have scrapbook layouts you return to again and again?  Each time you use the design it just works and makes you happy?  Colour blocking is one of those designs for me.  It’s a great way to use the last pieces from a kit too.

I don’t begin with a pattern, just my photos. Actually, in this case, it’s  photo place holders because the delivery of my prints is delayed 😊

Decide on the size of your canvas – this one is 11” squares.  Place your largest photos first and then add the smaller prints until you have a layout that is balanced and pleasing to your eye.  Choose a spot for your journaling and then fill any blank spaces with rectangular pieces of printed paper.  Aim to have an even space between each element.  ¼” is a good standard size gap.

Add embellishments last

Once all the photos and papers are arranged you can add your embellishments.  This layout features stamps from the Summer Vibes Scrapbooking set.

Close To My Heart’s Summer Vibes collection is available for purchase until the end of August 2020. View the range at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au

Stamp the waves and then cut a small section to slip your surfboards behind so it looks like they are standing upright in the sand. Add shimmer brush to the stamped images.

Sand the edges of cardstock elements before sticking in place. The white core showing through softens the look giving a beachy feel to the layout.

Cut the glasses from black cardstock using the thin cut. Stamp glasses onto scrap paper and cut the lenses out. Use these pieces as a pattern to cut lenses from holographic paper so they look reflective.

Brushed – Bring Back My Pack

This gorgeous collection is one of my all time favourites and I am so thrilled to have it back in our range until the end of July.  I had both stamp sets from the first time around (Nov 2014) but had used every last scrap of the papers. I happily ordered  more at the beginning of June.  Sadly, delayed transportation links meant my paper didn’t arrive in time to make my layout.

Not to be put off, I made my own paper using the stamp sets.  I used a heat embossing masking technique on the flowers and butterflies and then sponged around them to create the glacier background.

Close To My Heart’s Bring Back My Pack - Brushed collection is available for purchase until the end of July 2020. View the range on the promotions tab at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au

Large Triangles make a dramatic statement

This half triangle layout is very popular at the moment.  I love it and found it was a great way to showcase the large flowers on my hand made printed paper.

Oasis Holographic paper provided a fun base for the design but boy is it hard to photograph because it acts like a mirror!  ¼” strips of peacock cardstock frame the Holographic triangle segments.

Close To My Heart’s Bring Back My Pack - Brushed collection is available for purchase until the end of July 2020. View the range on the promotions tab at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au

Numerous photo layouts are possible with this design.  Adding circles breaks up some of  the lines.  These frilly circles are cut using the Spinner Card Thin Cuts.  They are just under 4” in diameter.  The square in the middle is 6”.  The sizes of both can be adjusted up or down to suit your supplies and photos.

Heat Embossed Masking Technique

Using this technique allows the white of the base page and the colours of stamped images to show through after you have sponged over them.  The heat embossing acts as a resist and ink doesn’t stick to it.

In a nutshell, it’s a 4 step process

  1. Use your anti-static pouch to wipe over cardstock before stamping
  2. Stamp outline of flower in Versamark ink and heat emboss with clear powder
  3. Stamp petals and butterflies in coloured ink and then again in Versamark.  Heat emboss with clear powder
  4. Sponge background paper in a contrast colour.
Close To My Heart’s Bring Back My Pack - Brushed collection is available for purchase until the end of July 2020. View the range on the promotions tab at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au

The heat embossing intensifies the coloured ink and also ‘locks in’ the white background paper.

Blues Skies – Celebrating National Scrapbook Month

May is all about sharing and celebrating our love of scrapbooking.  This year, Close To My Heart has released a vibrant and upbeat collection which is sure to make your heart happy.  It’s called Blue Skies. There are papers, stickers, stamps and a Cut Above kit that all co-ordinated perfectly.  You can choose individual products or grab a bargain by selecting a product bundle.

Make a quick scrapbook layout using bold patterns

I have chosen to work with two of the most dramatic prints in the paper pack.   I’ve used the opposite side of both these quite a bit but struggled each time I tried to add the full rainbow and the tile pattern to my pages.

Close To My Heart’s Blue Skies collection is available for purchase until the end of June 2020. View the range on the promotions tab at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au

After some thought, I realised it was because I was trying to add too much of the paper and I felt it overwhelmed my photos.  For me, bold patterns need clean and simple designs and a little goes a long way!

Keep it simple, Scrapbooker

My top tips when working with bold prints

  1. Balance the bold print with plenty of neutral background.  This layout is built on White Daisy cardstock to help the patterns stand out but also to rest the eye as it views the entire layout
  2. Use small pieces of a bold print on your layout.  Cutting the paper into a hexagon shape creates interest but also breaks up the very strong design elements of a bold print.
  3. Remember the triangle rule to balance your design.  Adding 3 clusters across your layout helps frame it and draw the eye into the pages.

The details

The hexagons were cut with a thin cut that is part of the Aurora Scrapbooking set (X3711).  It has a variety of different shapes to choose from.  The co-ordinating stamps feature outdoor, woodsy kind of sentiments which didn’t suit this layout so I performed a little stamp surgery and cut out the centre part of the hexagon stamp, leaving just the border.  It’s amazing how that very simple, narrow outline enhances the design.

Close To My Heart’s Blue Skies collection is available for purchase until the end of June 2020. View the range on the promotions tab at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au

The title comes from the Blue Skies stamp set (CC5201).  The sun and clouds are from the Beautiful Day stamp and thin cuts set (CC5202). These sets have so many great elements on them– perfect for many different scrapbook themes.

Close To My Heart’s Blue Skies collection is available for purchase until the end of June 2020. View the range on the promotions tab at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au

This photo shows what the layout looked like in the planning stages – see the difference a few accents can make? Notice I changed the direction of the stripes a couple of times too.

Make a rainbow sunburst on your page

Using the light and dark sides of 7 different colours makes it easy to create subtle colour transitions on a starburst page.  This page is the start of a chapter on all the GOOD to come from living in the time of a Covid 19 pandemic.  There are so many fun and inspiring things happening around the world that are worth remembering.  There are also many, many hilarious online gatherings and activities with our family and friends to record.

Stamp on cardstock

Plain cardstock is the perfect canvas for stamping.  This layout features background stamping of many small icons on the white cardstocks.  Simply take a 3” block and add lots of small stamps to it.  Then repeatedly stamp around the outside edges of the cardstock.  All these images came from Let the Good Times Roll (D19195E)

Simply read through this post and click on the link to the next blog at the end of it.  Keep reading and ‘hopping’ until you find yourself back where you started from.  Each blog will showcase a project featuring the O-fish-ally Awesome (S2004) stamp set which is April’s Stamp of the Month from Close To My Heart.

Create your own ocean scene with O-fish-ally Awesome (S2004) – April 2020's Stamp of the Month from Close To My Heart. Perfect for scrapbookers and card makers. Order yours from https://shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au/ during April 2020

This set is for everyone

Judging by the number of amazing projects being created with this set in our consultant community, I think you are all going to love it too.  So many realistic line drawings of undersea animals and plants with a little bit of whimsy thrown in.

Use O-fish-ally Awesome on a scrapbook layout

What a challenge it’s been to design a project different to all the others I have seen shared in our consultant groups!  My hubby is finishing up the editing of photos from Close To My Heart’s 2016 Incentive Trip to Tahiti.  We loved every minute of it and I’ve been waiting for just the right papers and stamps to use in the album.  This Stamp of the Month is a great start.

Use O-fish-ally Awesome to create a scene

With so many stamps on one sheet, it is easy to create and underwater scene.  Begin by clustering the seaweed images and stamping repeatedly across your 12” strip of cardstock.

Stamp the same cluster onto a Post-It note and cut out.  I use the Post-It notes with full adhesive backing.  Leave a little ‘grab tab’ at the base of each plant so you don’t get fingerprints on the adhesive side of the paper.

Cover the stamped images.  Stamp sand and the animal images over this cluster.  When you lift off the Post-It note masks, it will look like the fish are swimming behind the seweed.

Colour images with Tri-blend Markers

These have to be the easiest way to shade images.  3 tones of one colour are included in each marker.  Work from light to dark.  If you are not sure what colours to use, simply search ‘Tropical Fish Images’ and copy from real life.

Once your mages are coloured choose a light blue and fill in all of the background.

Three ways to use your scene

Now you have options!  Leave the scene as a strip and make it into page border; Cut the title from the scene using Classic Alphabet Thin Cuts and add a neutral colour to the background or use the individual letters as I have in the layout above.

The Port Hole is easy to make using circles of different sizes.  I cut mine on the Cricut but you could trace around plates or use a cutting system.

Welcome to the CTMH Australasian These Are My People Blog Hop.  This hop features the artwork of some talented women from across Australia and New Zealand.

Then you click on the link at the end of this post and it will take you to the next blog and so on and so on. Easy and fun! Best part- you can see several different projects you can create with Close To My Heart’s These Are My People collection!   When you land back here, you are done and it’s time to hit the scrapbook room for some crafting fun.

The These Are My People collection includes a 12×12 Cut Above Kit, a paper pack, stickers, co-ordinating cardstock and a stamp set.  You can purchase items individually or as a bundle.  There is also a downloadable instruction handout filled with inspiration for 2 layouts, 2 single pages and 13 cards.  Be sure to save this handout so you can replicate the patterns over and over in different paper packs.  When you switch the papers, they will suit different people in your life. The handout is available until March 31, 2020 on the Promotions Tab of your consultant’s website.

Who are your people?

This collection is all about honouring the important people in your life. Who is missing from your scrapbooks? For me, it is my aunts and uncles that I wish to focus on for the layouts I’m making this month. I have very few layouts that include them as we live on opposite sides of the country.

These gorgeous people are my mum’s siblings. Together, they are a shining example of people who did not let their early life circumstances keep them down. They were funny, caring, loving and always supportive of each other. The three photos were taken over a 30 year period.

I plan for this to be the opening layout in a chapter all about them. Following layouts will focus on individuals and what they taught me about life in general and family in particular.

The journalling on this layout is an example of Story by Stacy Short Story. Following pages will use the Stories I love journalling style.

Create a bold page title

The title was created using Thin Cuts. I love the shape of the Stitched Bracket Thin cuts. The actual shapes were used in a kit project for my customers but the leftover strip was a perfect place to frame the letters created with Close To My Heart’s newest ABC/123 dies – Classic Alphabet Thin Cuts.

Cut the letters from scraps and stick to the layout. Then outline each letter with a black journalling pen. Work slowly and you will find it easy to follow the shape of the letter.

Add stamping to your printed paper

The soft peach spots on this print are lovely but did not provide enough contrast on the page. By adding a stamped flower to each spot a bolder look was created.

Stamped embellishments complete the layout

The bluebird chevron pattern is created by repeatedly stamping this small stamp. This creates a border to frame the photos on the layout. ‘Love these people‘ is the perfect phrase to use as a title and can also be found on the stamp set with this collection

Order your supplies this month

The These Are My People collection is only available to purchase for a limited time.  Order yours on your consultant’s website before April 30.  If you do not have a consultant, please visit my website for full details. A list of products used on my layout appears at the end of this post.
