Best part- you can see several different projects you can create with Close To My Heart’s These Are My People collection!   When you land back here, you are done and it’s time to hit the scrapbook room for some crafting fun.

The These Are My People collection includes a 12×12 Cut Above Kit, a paper pack, stickers, co-ordinating cardstock and a stamp set.  You can purchase items individually or as a bundle.  There is also a downloadable instruction handout filled with inspiration for 2 layouts, 2 single pages and 13 cards.  Be sure to save this handout so you can replicate the patterns over and over in different paper packs.  When you switch the papers, they will suit different people in your life. The handout is available until March 31, 2020 on the Promotions Tab of your consultant’s website.

Who are your people?

This collection is all about honouring the important people in your life. Who is missing from your scrapbooks? For me, it is my aunts and uncles that I wish to focus on for the layouts I’m making this month. I have very few layouts that include them as we live on opposite sides of the country.

These gorgeous people are my mum’s siblings. Together, they are a shining example of people who did not let their early life circumstances keep them down. They were funny, caring, loving and always supportive of each other. The three photos were taken over a 30 year period.

I plan for this to be the opening layout in a chapter all about them. Following layouts will focus on individuals and what they taught me about life in general and family in particular.

The journalling on this layout is an example of Story by Stacy Short Story. Following pages will use the Stories I love journalling style.

Create a bold page title

The title was created using Thin Cuts. I love the shape of the Stitched Bracket Thin cuts. The actual shapes were used in a kit project for my customers but the leftover strip was a perfect place to frame the letters created with Close To My Heart’s newest ABC/123 dies – Classic Alphabet Thin Cuts.

Cut the letters from scraps and stick to the layout. Then outline each letter with a black journalling pen. Work slowly and you will find it easy to follow the shape of the letter.

Add stamping to your printed paper

The soft peach spots on this print are lovely but did not provide enough contrast on the page. By adding a stamped flower to each spot a bolder look was created.

Stamped embellishments complete the layout

The bluebird chevron pattern is created by repeatedly stamping this small stamp. This creates a border to frame the photos on the layout. ‘Love these people‘ is the perfect phrase to use as a title and can also be found on the stamp set with this collection

Order your supplies this month

The These Are My People collection is only available to purchase for a limited time.  Order yours on your consultant’s website before April 30.  If you do not have a consultant, please visit my website for full details. A list of products used on my layout appears at the end of this post.

Yesterday & Today – more than a heritage collection

This whole collection is in shades of brown and grey.  That can be a challenge for bright loving scrapbookers like me.  I have to confess, I wasn’t a fan when I first saw the preview images but I have now created many layouts I adore using this collection.

The neutral shades make the perfect backdrop for outdoor pursuits and photos of nature.  Today’s layout features the vibrant reds and greens of King Parrots.  If bright papers were also used on the layout it would be an assault on the senses.  Accenting with shades of brown allows the photos to shine.

Keep the page design simple

You really can’t go past a border made up of strips of varying widths.  It’s a simple way to ensure you have a lot of real estate on your pages for photos.  This layout holds 14 photos without a flip flap in sight!

Working on page bases of toffee cardstock helps blend the printed papers with the backgrounds of the photos, adding warmth and texture to it.

Highlight your layout with stamped & die cut images.

The new Blossoming Friendship stamp/ Thin Cut set is a dream come true for me.  I love our Australian bush landscape and having 2 different eucalypt leaves featured along with closed and open gum nuts offers me endless opportunities to accent photos we take in our own country.

Create simple clusters by stamping on coloured cardstock.  The gum nuts are coloured with Tri-Blend markers and the leaves with Julep Shimmer Brush.

Use what you’ve learned in the Story by Stacy Kits

This layout is a classic example of a Short Story.  It includes lots of images on one subject with a story that summarises the event and adds a reflection of the experience.  I really feel I am a far superior storyteller for having completed Close To My Heart’s Story by Stacy course.

Don’t be afraid to ask a friend for feedback on your design

Our Sandy is never far away when I’m sitting quietly scrapbooking.  As I was completing this layout he popped up to check things out.  I think it was a thumbs up as he lay there purring for some time.  Writing my story was a challenge ‘cos he didn’t move and I didn’t have the heart to disturb him!

Welcome to the Stamp of the Month Australasian Blog Hop.  This is a circular hop.  If you arrived from Maz’s blog, https://artymaz.wordpress.com/2020/03/01/close-to-my-heart-family-legacy-march-stamp-of-the-month-australasian-blog-hop/ you are in the right place. Simply read through this post and click on the link to the next blog at the end of it.  Keep reading and ‘hopping’ until you find yourself back where you started from.  Each blog will showcase a project featuring the Family Legacy (S2003) stamp set which is March’s Stamp of the Month from Close To My Heart.

Heritage meets beach fun

How pretty are the flourishes in this stamp set? Don’t limit your view of this set to heritage layouts. Add some coloured ink and use them with current photos. Today’s layout records mornings spent at the beach.

The flourishes around the title are stamped tone on tone on Almond cardstock and then fussy cut. The flourishes stamped on the background page were made with Bluebird ink (it didn’t photograph well) using masking to overlap the images

Add texture and sparkle with embossing folders and Stickles

The new Under the Sea embossing folder is just fabulous. Lots of sea shells, fish and bubbles. Just add Stickles to a few of the elements to highlight the patterns and you have an eye catching pattern.

Order your Stamp of the Month

Family Legacy(S2003) is only available during March, 2020.  Full retail price is $34 but you can have this gorgeous set for just $9 when accompanied by an $80 order. Yes! That is a reduction in the qualifying amount, making it easier than ever for you to own this gorgeous stamp set.

Oh My Heart Collection

Standard
Close To My Heart’s Oh My Heart collection is available through to Feb 29, 2020 https://shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au/

The Oh My Heart collection includes a paper pack, stickers, co-ordinating cardstock and a stamp set.  You can purchase items individually or as a bundle.  There is also a downloadable instruction handout filled with inspiration for 1 layout, 1 single page and 40 cards.  Be sure to save this handout so you can replicate the patterns over and over in different paper packs.  When you switch the sentiments out or flip the papers over they transform from Valentines to any theme you desire.

I love KAWS scrapbook layout

Valentines isn’t something we celebrate in my family but I think the papers are just beautiful.  Today’s project is a 2 page layout about the KAWS exhibition we viewed in Melbourne last year.  KAWS is a street artist who expanded to all sorts of amazing art.  We loved it!

The design was inspired by a layout I completed at January’s CTMH Album Retreat.

Close To My Heart’s Oh My Heart collection is available through to Feb 29, 2020 https://shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au/

The Oh My Heart papers fit the photos because several have pops of pink in them.  The heart theme suits KAWS grey sculptures which depict a range of emotions.  I love it when the papers enhance the overall them of my photos.

Fitting many photos on a layout is easier if you print them smaller.  Most of these photos are 2” x 3”. Mounting all the photos helps them to stand out against the white background.

The Celebrate Today Scrapbooking stamp set provided the grid, date banner and title flags for this layout,

Help Close To My Heart Raise Funds for Australian Bushfire Relief

Welcome to the Keep Your Head Up blog hop. Today I have teamed up with 2 sister consultants to share creative inspiration using Close To My Heart’s fundraising stamp set. This is a circular hop. You may have arrived from Dannii’s blog, a link from my Facebook page or stumbled upon us by accident. Regardless of how you got here, you are welcome! Simply read through my post, click the link to the next consultant and continue through until you find yourself back here. Then it’s time to head to the crafting table for some stamping fun times.

Support Close To My Heart’s ‘Keep Your Head Up’ fundraiser by purchasing this stamp set at https://shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au/

This stamp set is titled Keep Your Head Up (W1202).  It was designed especially to support the Red Cross (Aust) fundraising appeal to help those impacted by recent bush fires.  All proceeds from the sale of these stamps will be donated to the Australian Red Cross.

Isn’t it beautiful? The sentiments share the message we all send to those impacted by the fires. I LOVE the heart and have been experimenting with designs for my albums and cards.

Create a Birthday Celebration Layout

Today’s project is a 2 page layout that will showcase photos taken at my niece’s 21st next weekend.  She is the youngest of my nieces and the first one who’s celebration we have been able to attend – hence the title.

One of the best things about being a crafter is constantly learning and trying new techniques.  This is the first time I’ve ever sewn on my pages.  It was way easier than I thought and lots of fun!  If you are a sewer, have a go.  It’s a great way to add texture to your page without adding bulk.  Be sure to pull the threads through to the back and hold in place with a piece of washi tape.

Mix Ins Paper packets offer a range of background papers. The Juniper Shimmer Brush ‘scribbles’ add an accent to the stitch line.

Hearts were stamped repeatedly to create the border panels.  Set them aside to dry completely before watercolouring.  This is a very detailed stamp so colouring with the paints would be quite tricky.  Adding a wash over the whole design is fast and easy.  Use watercolour paper for best results and wet the image with clean water before adding the colour.

You can go over the hearts with your journalling pen if you want the shape to stand out a bit more. A flower stamped in Sangria ink, fussy cut and popped up on Thin Foam finishes each heart nicely

Pops of black add strong contrast to this pastel layout.  The complements are from the Every Little Thing collection.  Painting with a shimmer brush gives the flowers a lift.  A narrow strip of shimmer trim frames the borders and unifies the design. Do you love the frilly circle die-cut? It’s the spinner part of Card Front Spinner Thin Cuts set.

Order your stamp set today

This is a B-size stamp set that would normally be priced at $20, but Close To My Heart have decided to make it available for just $10. When you purchase the set all proceeds from its sale will be donated to the Red Cross, with the donations designated to the relief efforts for the Australia bushfires.

In order to maximise the donation amount, this set will be non-commissionable, meaning it does not count to Hostess Rewards and SOTM totals. This way all proceeds—including the amount that would normally go toward paying commissions—will be donated.

If you would like to support this fundraiser, simply place an order with your Close To My Heart consultant

Let’s keep the stamp department flat out making these beautiful sets for us!

Engagement Party Photo Prop Frame

Love is in the air

Mike and I had the great joy of hosting an engagement party for our daughter and her fiancé recently.  Many of their close friends, family members and some of Kathryn’s scrapbook aunties joined us.  I had a lot of fun creating this frame for photo opportunities.

It’s not difficult to make a decorative frame but it does take some time.  Start early so you can enjoy the process and play around with placement of elements before you commit to gluing them down. The proposal happened at the beach so seashell stamps were an obvious choice and a couple of nice big Cricut cut diamonds were essential.  Twine and some leftover packaging added texture.

Create a personalised photo prop frame using stamps and Cricut cuts from the Close To My Heart range. Visit https://shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au/ to see the range of themed stamps and cartridges available to purchase

Find a sturdy frame

This one came from an Op Shop.  It had a very dated picture in it and was only a few dollars.  It was easy to pop the picture out and use pliers to bend the metal thingies that held it in so no fingers would be harmed during the photographs.

Begin making LOTS of small elements

Create a personalised photo prop frame using stamps and Cricut cuts from the Close To My Heart range. Visit https://shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au/ to see the range of themed stamps and cartridges available to purchase

You will be amazed how many small pieces you will use to achieve a balanced look to your frame. The seashells on this one come from two stamp sets.  The smaller shells are from a retired set called Swirly Shells and the largest shells are a stamp and thin cut set called Beach Treasures, available for 30% off as part of this month’s Stamptacular sale.  Stamp the shells onto the light side of almond cardstock and heat emboss using Copper Tinsel, Gold Tinsel or Clear powder.

Then pull up some images of real shells on your phone or laptop and use them as a guide to add colour and patterns to the largest shells using watercolour paints.  I was fortunate to have an artist visiting who took over this part for me 😊

Create focal elements

The large and medium size diamonds were cut from white glitter paper using Close To My Heart’s Artistry Cricut Cartridge.  The largest seashells were a free download from Cricut and were cut in julep glitter paper.  Cut two layers for the base of each Cricut shape to strengthen them.  In this frame, the gorgeous Holographic paper shows through the pattern of the shell overlays and a solid cardstock forms the bottom layer. See how the play of light changes the colour of the holographic papers?

‘Love’ was cut 4 times from cardstock and layered to make it really robust.  It isn’t attached to anything firm so needs to be able to stand up to some handling.

Create a personalised photo prop frame using stamps and Cricut cuts from the Close To My Heart range. Visit https://shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au/ to see the range of themed stamps and cartridges available to purchase

Layer all your elements

This part does take some time.  You will find you move pieces around quite a bit until your design is balanced and pleasing to your eye.  Work in opposite corners with the lower cluster taking more space than the top one.

You need an anchor to build your design on.  I had some brown paper packaging that came wrapped around bottles.  I’ve had it in the craft cupboard for 2 years not knowing how I would use it.  This was the perfect project for it!  Attach your largest elements to this base.  I used liquid glass because it gives a strong bond and filled the gaps in the brown paper.

Create a personalised photo prop frame using stamps and Cricut cuts from the Close To My Heart range. Visit https://shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au/ to see the range of themed stamps and cartridges available to purchase

The trickiest part was attaching this base cluster to the frame.  My final solution was to cut 1” strips of cardstock.  Liquid glass one end to the back of the brown paper, coat the strip with more liquid glass and wrap it around the frame.  You are working from the back so it doesn’t have to be neat.  Once all the decorative elements are in place you can come back and cover the ‘workings’ with a sheet of cardstock cut to fit.

The final stages are attaching the smaller elements and adding some texture to the clusters.  A mixture of glue dots and liquid glass holds everything in place.  Shells are overlapped and tucked behind other elements.  The twine is caught in a couple of places so it can loop and provide dimensionality.  Some chunky bling added contrasting colour.

Choose your theme and start creating

What theme could you use for a photo prop frame?  Have a look through your supplies and re-discover hidden treasures in your craft cupboard.

Holographic Papers – they are magical!

Standard

This post comes with a warning: Holographic papers are completely addictive! Once you start using them in your paper craft projects you will begin thinking of an endless array of applications.

What is Holographic Paper?

Holographic paper has been coated with a metallic-like finish that reflects light, creating a range of colours depending on the angle it is held to the light. Once added to a card or scrapbook page, the colours will vary as the project is handled and as it is viewed in different light conditions.

How do you use Holographic Paper?

This paper is perfect for any cards or layouts that need a little pizzazz.

  • Use large pieces to back a card design or scrapbook border
  • Mount special photos
  • Add narrow strips in place of shimmer trim, ribbon or twine
  • Cut it with Thin Cuts
  • Emboss it with textured folders
  • Stamp on it
  • Heat emboss on it
  • Add Stickles to it
  • Colour with alcohol markers

Stamping on Holographic Paper

Today I’m sharing some tips to stamp on Holographic paper.  The mermaid’s tails were made this way. Aren’t they adorable?  They will find a home on a layout I’m creating featuring photos of mermaids on stand up paddle boards – of course mermaids can’t stand so they were passengers on the boards.

The shiny surface of this paper will not accept dye-based inks.  They will just sit on the surface and smudge or wipe off.  The best ink for the job with Holographic papers is StazOn. This ink is specially formulated to work on any shiny surface.

Close To My Heart offer StazOn in Brown and Black.  Simply ink your stamp as you would normally and stamp on the paper gently.  Don’t add too much pressure to the block as it may slip and cause a blurred image.  I suggest stamping first, setting it aside to dry completely while you make the rest of the project.

StazOn Ink is ideal for stamping on any non-poraous surface like Holographic papers, glass, metal and plastic. Order yours at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au

It’s important to note that you require StazOn cleaning fluid to remove excess ink from your stamps.  Simply follow the instructions on the bottle.  Use an old cleaning cloth to wipe off the excess cleaner as it can leach colour from your stamp shammy.

SatzOn Cleaner is perfect for cleaning your stamps after using StazOn ink. Order yours at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au

Choose from two colours

Endless posibilities await with Holographic papers from Close To My Heart. order yours at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au

Close To My Heart currently offers Dreamy and Oasis Holographic papers.  You will find 3 sheets of 12” x 12” paper in each pack, offering you many opportunities to create some irridescent magic on your cards and layouts.  Check all the details on my website.
