Yesterday & Today – more than a heritage collection

This whole collection is in shades of brown and grey.  That can be a challenge for bright loving scrapbookers like me.  I have to confess, I wasn’t a fan when I first saw the preview images but I have now created many layouts I adore using this collection.

The neutral shades make the perfect backdrop for outdoor pursuits and photos of nature.  Today’s layout features the vibrant reds and greens of King Parrots.  If bright papers were also used on the layout it would be an assault on the senses.  Accenting with shades of brown allows the photos to shine.

Keep the page design simple

You really can’t go past a border made up of strips of varying widths.  It’s a simple way to ensure you have a lot of real estate on your pages for photos.  This layout holds 14 photos without a flip flap in sight!

Working on page bases of toffee cardstock helps blend the printed papers with the backgrounds of the photos, adding warmth and texture to it.

Highlight your layout with stamped & die cut images.

The new Blossoming Friendship stamp/ Thin Cut set is a dream come true for me.  I love our Australian bush landscape and having 2 different eucalypt leaves featured along with closed and open gum nuts offers me endless opportunities to accent photos we take in our own country.

Create simple clusters by stamping on coloured cardstock.  The gum nuts are coloured with Tri-Blend markers and the leaves with Julep Shimmer Brush.

Use what you’ve learned in the Story by Stacy Kits

This layout is a classic example of a Short Story.  It includes lots of images on one subject with a story that summarises the event and adds a reflection of the experience.  I really feel I am a far superior storyteller for having completed Close To My Heart’s Story by Stacy course.

Don’t be afraid to ask a friend for feedback on your design

Our Sandy is never far away when I’m sitting quietly scrapbooking.  As I was completing this layout he popped up to check things out.  I think it was a thumbs up as he lay there purring for some time.  Writing my story was a challenge ‘cos he didn’t move and I didn’t have the heart to disturb him!

Welcome to the CTMH Australasian Bring Back My Pack – Urban Blog Hop.  This hop features the artwork of some talented women from across Australia and New Zealand.

If you arrived from Dannii’s Blog you are in the right place.  If this is your first time on a blog hop simply read on and enjoy my creations.  If you like what I show today, please subscribe to my blog, leave a comment on this post or share it on social media. Best part- you can see several different projects you can create with Close To My Heart’s Urban collection!   When you land back here, you are done and it’s time to hit the scrapbook room for some crafting fun.

Urban is back for a short time

You will love the very different prints in this paper pack – all representative of buildings and construction.  The colours are earthy and the prints textural.

The Urban collection is available until the end of January 2020.  Buy it as a full kit or purchase individual items.  Ask your Close To My Heart Consultant for details.

Show off ALL the patterns

Close To My Heart’s Urban collection adapts brilliantly to a variety of scrapbook themes and card designs. Order your collection at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au before the end of January 2020

What do you do when ALL the prints in a paper pack are fabulous? Show them off of course!  I’ve been hanging out to play with the NEW Stitched Bracket Thin Cuts.  One 3” x 12” strip of each paper is enough to cut 2 of each Bracket shape, giving you many options for how you arrange them.

Use Make It From Your Heart patterns

I knew I wanted to create a border to display the paper shapes and that I had lots of photos to include on this layout, so I’d need a Pocket Plus Protector.  The last 6 patterns In Make It From Your Heart, Vol 3 are designed to accommodate these pocket protectors.  Pattern 33 was ideal for my layout.

Mix new with old for stash busting

I’m running a Mission Possible Challenge the first 6 weeks of the year and our focus is on using up embellishments in our stash.  I had a look through my ribbons and trims and found 4 that co-ordinated with the colours of the Urban papers.  Grouping several ribbons alongside each other creates a wider focal point in the design.

Have you ever been frustrated that twine stored on a card has kinks in it? Just run you damp stamp shammy along the twine and it will straighten out.

A title and journalling always complete the layout

Close To My Heart’s Urban collection adapts brilliantly to a variety of scrapbook themes and card designs. Order your collection at www.shaunnarichards.closetomyheart.com.au before the end of January 2020

It’s interesting how a title and a story transform the look of a layout, inviting the reader in to learn more about the photos.  My title used the Block Alphabet thin cuts, stamped with a background stamp and with some very long-retired alphabet stickers.

The journal boxes in the pockets were decorated with left over bracket shapes from the border teamed with a ribbon.  Simple and fast to make.

Welcome to the Stamp of the Month Australasian Blog Hop.  This is a circular hop.  If you arrived from Crop Craft Create, you are in the right place. Fun Fonts

Don’t you just love the fonts and the fun way these sentiments are arranged?  They will look awesome on the inside or the outside of your cards.  I always like to make every Stamp of the Month work on a scrapbook layout and this set was way easier than I had anticipated.

Use From Me to You on a scrapbook Layout

This layout was part of an album kit I received as a reward for qualifying for the most recent CTMH Incentive trip to Buenos Aries.  I love the vibrant colours and decided it would actually be perfect for some photos from the previous incentive trip I earned to Tahiti in 2018.

The original design only had a couple of canary yellow circles.  Adding a few more highlighted some favourite photos of this snorkelling experience.  All these sentiments are from this Stamp of the Month and are ideal to use in photo albums.

The designer squiggles at the top and bottom of the journal box plus the repeated stamping on the edge of the Mint cardstock on the RH page are made from stamps in this set too – such versatility!

As usual, there were way more photos than the layout could take.  Thank heavens for Pocket Plus protectors – 7 extra snaps of gorgeous reef fish displayed in a jiffy.  The one spare slot was filled with a self made PML card.  Simply cut a 3” x 4” piece of cardstock.  Background stamp and then add the stitched circle thin cut with sentiment.  Stamps on this element came from one of Close To My Heart’s Hostess Rewards stamps, Say Cheese.  Ask your consultant how you can get this set for free.

My first project today is copied straight from the Story Starter chapter in our newest How To Book, Storyteller.  The bear and cub image in this stamp set reminded me of how much my daughter loved (still does love) hugging a soft toy.  I went back through some old photos and found a couple of her with early favourites.  Then I remembered a couple of bunnies who had retired hurt, were still in our garage.  I got them out and took a photo.  I will add more images and stories to this layout later to create what Stacy Julian calls a ‘Connected Story’

Using the Bear Hugs stamp set on this layout

  • Stamp the bear in Charcoal ink.  Colour the cub with pink Shimmer Brush.  Fussy cut and mount with foam tape.
  • Add small hearts in Charcoal ink, near bear image.
  • Use both flower images and Sweet Leaf ink to create the borders on pink paper.
  • Stamp butterflies onto black base page using Daisy White pigment ink
  • Create title using “Mama Bear” stamp and a mixture of alphabet stamps – Solid & Outline Classroom Alphabet, Stitched Alphabet and Modern Typewriter Alphabet.

Tell your story

Become a better storyteller in your scrapbook albums by following the lessons in CTMH Storyteller How To Book by Stacy Julian. Order yours from www.shaunnarichards.ctmh.com.au

Following Stacy Julian’s tips in the Storyteller book, you can write more meaningful and fuller stories to go with your photos.  In the past a layout such as this would have had one brief comment added to it about my daughter’s love of her toys.  Now, it is becoming a rich treasure chest of very individualised memories shared.

Project 2: Sending you a bear hug card

A lovely friend is recovery from major surgery – a Bear Hug was needed so I made this card for her.

I used Sweet Girl papers and the Share the Joy Thin cuts and stamps along with the Stamp of the Month.

Tell your story using Bear Hugs (S1907) – July’s 2019's Stamp of the Month from Close To My Heart. Perfect for scrapbookers and card makers. Order yours from www.shaunnarichards.ctmh.com.au during July 2019
  • Cover the front of your card with a subtle print paper
  • Cut the Multi Circle Window using the Thin Cut from this month’s Share the Joy Special promotion to make the raised panel. Sponge edges with Sapphire ink for contrast.
  • Stamp the hearts BEFORE gluing the panel in place.
  • Add foam tape to the back of the circle window panel. Left over pieces from shaker card kits are perfect.
  • Once the panel is in place remember to add foam inside the circles that will be covered by the bear and the banner.
  • Cut the Banner Thin cut that comes in the Share the Joy bundle and stamp with “Sending you a”
  • Stamp inside the card to complete the sentence.
  • Stamp and fussy cut the Mama Bear. Colour the cub with clear shimmer brush. Glue to front of card, sliding banner underneath the bear image.
  • Add white pearls at intersections of stitched lines between the circles.
  • Pieces of thin twine wrapped around the fold of the card and tied together, complete it. I had no pink twine so coloured grey twine with a Shin Han marker.

My darling mum turns 90 in a couple of weeks so I decided to make a banner for her room at the Aged Care Residence where she lives.  I’ve used the colours from the True Love Collection because I plan to scrapbook photos of the day using it – I may even organise an outfit to match too!

Don’t be deceived by the name of this collection.  Whilst it is perfect for photos of baby girls and all things feminine, there is a masculine set of papers hidden within it!  The photos above show two of the ways you can group the papers for different looks.

Today I am sharing photos that have nothing to do with babies or little girls.  My photos were taken at King’s College in Cambridge.  The soft pinks and weathered greys of the sandstone work perfectly with a few prints in the Sweet Girl collection. The lighter side of New England Ivy Cardstock for the base creates contrast to the softer tones of photos and papers without overpowering them.

First up, create the frame by trimming the woodgrain paper. Mitre the corner for a realistic look. See how the prints match nicely at the join?

Trim your background papers using a 12″ trimmer. Cut the peach photo mounts to fit your images. The foam ABC stickers make a bold heading for your page. If you would like a different colour you can colour with Shin Han markers over them whilst still on the carrier sheet. A narrow strip of woodgrain paper anchors the title and links it to the border.

Use complement stickers and die cuts along with the Stitched Quilt Shape Thin Cuts to embellish your layout. The 2 shapes I used from the thin cut set are designed to emboss another shape but I chose to fussy cut them as stand alone embellishments.

The So Much Happy collection is available until the end of April 2019.  Buy it as a full kit or purchase individual items. Close To My Heart have a BOGO special during March. You could buy the paper pack and pair it with the co-ordinating cardstock for half price. Ask your consultant for details.

This really is such a happy collection!  The Lemon and Candy Apple papers really pop.  The subtler hues of Lagoon, Mint and Peach compliment perfectly and the Sapphire makes a great neutral.  As with all our paper collections, each sheet is double sided and a really bright or busy pattern will be backed by a softer shade or subtle pattern.  This means EVERYONE can use it.

Today I am sharing a layout featuring some fabulous time exposure shots my husband took of a ferris wheel.  Each year Perth, Western Australia, hosts a Fringe Festival.  It is vibrant, fun and engaging.  We try to go to 3 or 4 shows a week to make the most of it.  There is a little ferris wheel in the arts centre hub that most people ignore.  This night, Mike came armed with a tripod and had some shutter fun.

The spiral circle was made using quilting templates! I am working (very slowly) on Judy Newman’s Sugarplum quilt and had been using the spiral template earlier with fabric. Once I pulled out my photos I knew the design was perfect for my page too.

The title banner and centre circle can be found on the cut apart sheet which is the reverse side of the cute diamond print paper used in the spiral. The largest stitched circle thin cut fits the ‘One of a Kind’ embellishment perfectly. Complete the title using the gorgeous alphabet stickers that come in the So Much Fun complements and add stars from the puffies and complements.

This was a really quick layout as the second page had minimal decoration on it. Just the photos in all their colourful glory. You can find details of the journaling box in an earlier post here

The So Much Happy collection is available to purchase from your Close To My Heart consultant.  A list of products used in my projects appears at the end of this post.  Place your order with your Close To My Heart Consultant. If you don’t have a consultant, you can order online through my website .
