CTMH Thin Cuts Australasian Blog Hop

I am so in love with Thin Cuts dies and their matching stamp sets.  No more fussy cutting with these stamps!  Because the dies save time I find I am using the stamps more.

Thin Cuts

Thin Cuts

This layout was inspired by pp104-105 of the Cherish How To Book.  It’s a layout we were challenged to use in a team virtual crop this month.  The small squares were the perfect place to showcase the Carnival Fun stamps and Thin Cuts.

Thin Cuts are an awesome addition to your tools collection.    You can stamp first and then use the dies in your Cuttlebug or Big Shot machine to cut around them or cut the shapes first and then stamp.  I prefer the second method.  The stamps are super easy to match up with the cuts.

If you haven’t seen Thin Cuts used before, you may like to watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrvRJepJHw0

Happy Scrapping,

Who’s the boss?

When travelling in a hire car in a foreign country, do you have trouble deciding who is the boss?  Is it the navigator or the driver?  You know what I’m saying here, don’t you?  After several trips I have figured out the answer – the GPS Girl is the boss!  I just tell her where we want to end up and she bosses Mike endlessly throughout the drive.  “Perform a U-turn when safe to do so”;  “Make a left hand turn in 400m”;  “Re-calibrating route”.  I love her!  I have named this GPS girl Sally Seaside because most of this trip will be on the coast.  I know we are going to have a fab time together and at the end of each day’s travel, Mike and I will still be friends.  Our travel buddy bear is fascinated by Sally Seaside too!

This page is created using the Wanderful Workshop on the Go Kit (G1088) and Compliments stickers (X7191C).  I especially love the stamps in this kit.  I would actually buy the kit just for the 2 stamps featured in the lower right corner.  The little journal page stamp and the travel log stamp are invaluable when making travel albums.

Wanderful WOTG Stamp Set

The ‘This way, That way’ sentiments worked perfectly for the theme of this page.

I just love the Black Arrows Washi Tape  (Z2003) and added it on the side of the page then finished off with a Triangle Border punch  (Z1997) along the edge of the cardstock.  Teal shimmer trim (Z1918) behind the border made it stand out.

Remember to scrapbook some of the ‘inconsequential stuff’ like hire cars – the stories you tell for years to come often involve these things more than the views you saw.

Travel Bug Challenge 4

Goofy’s Orchestra

Whilst visiting California Adventure we came across Goofy conducting an imaginary orchestra.  He was very funny and then I realised the fountains behind him were synchronised with the music.  Very cool.  I just had to dedicate a page to his antics.

Goofy's Orchestra

This layout is based on one called, appropriately, “Performance”.  You will find it on p48 of the CTMH Magic How To book. (9040) The papers are this month’s featured collection – Paper Fundamentals and these colours come from the Adventure Assortment pack (Z2032)

6x4 Facebook posts - Page 007

I cut the border on my Cricut and used white enamel stars (Z2010).  They got a bit lost on the page so I coloured them in with my Shin Han Markers – much happier with that now!

I am more than a little bit in love with the Chevron Border Punch (Z1998) and just had to add it to this page too.  I cut strips 1/4″ wide to thread through the border and give it a different look.  The white stars got a make over again – in red this time.

I thought the page was finished at this point but there was a dead spot in the lower left corner.  A quick flick through the Cricut Artbooking booklet and I found the perfect embellishment.  Isn’t this Ferris wheel so cute?  Did you know you can get a Cricut cartridge for half price as a hostess?  All you need are a couple of friends who want to make a card or page, $300 in orders and you qualify!  Click here or more information on the awesome rewards you can earn as a hostess.

Hostess Rewards

Duchess Retreat Page

I had the great pleasure of running my 12th Annual Duchess Retreat for 24 ladies this past weekend.  My sister runs it with me and we treasure this time together. We proclaimed ourselves Duchesses 12 years ago when we decided our camp would be based on a series of challenges, like the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.  The challenges can be simple but there are always a couple that stretch croppers skills just a little (or a lot if you ask some!).

I look forward to this weekend of creating, laughter and hijinks as much as my customers and team members do and always arrive home on a high, love cup overflowing and so thankful to have such fabulous women in my life.

This year my good friend, Rose, was our chef and we enjoyed homemade gourmet treats all weekend.  Friday night is always Frock Night and the ladies excelled this year, scouring op shops across Australia for frocks with just the right level of hilarity.

I kept the layout simple so the Duchess outfits could shine.  You will notice 2 products that aren’t in the current ideas book.  The Better with a Friend Stamp Set is in our NEW Ideas Book launching August 1 and is one of the Exclusive Hostess Rewards stamps.  These glamorous gals are coloured using the blending pen (3174) and Exclusive Inks.  I’d love to show you how.  Why not invite a few friends over for a free class to play with this set and then you can purchase this stamp set with your Hostess Reward dollars.

The other new product on the page is the Chevron Border Punch (Z1998).  This was a firm favourite over the weekend.  A strip of shimmer trim behind it really adds some zing to the page. Click here to see all the shimmer trim colours available. Be sure to check out my website on August 1 to view the online Ideas Book & Catalogue. http://shaunnarichards.ctmh.com.au

If you would like to see the range of new products, we’d welcome your attendance at our Perth New Product Launch and crafty afternoon this coming Saturday.  Comment below or contact me for address details.  You are most welcome to bring a friend.

A few of my favourite things… Bonding Memories Glue Pens

Working with paper is so much easier with the right adhesives.  Let me share some tips about this versatile glue pen.

Bonding memories is a liquid glue that offers the versatility of being permanent or temporary.  The foam applicator is white when you first open the packaging.  A couple of ‘pumps’ will see blue glue running towards the tip DON’T over pump it or you will have a puddle 🙂  The glue goes on blue and when you stick the piece to another sheet of paper it will bond permanently.  If you allow time for the glue to turn white before affixing, it will be a temporary bond.  This is great if you are experimenting or it is something you want to be able to remove later.

I love this glue for my card making because I get right to the edges of each layer and they don’t lift off as the card is being handled.  Having the choice of 2 sizes means I always have the right tool for the job.

Bonding memories is strong – perfect for 3D objects.  Stick pieces together while it’s blue and they won’t come apart with handling.

This adhesive is acid free so it’s perfectly OK to use it on your scrapbook pages.  I don’t use it on my photos because I’m always a little nervous with liquid and photographic prints but I do stick down fussy embellishments with it on my pages.

A few of my favourite things… Micro Tip Scissors

Next on my list of favourite things are the Close To My Heart Non-stick Micro Tip Scissors (Z1836).  I have 2 pairs because other people in the house keep borrowing them!

If you cut adhesives, these are a must have because they don’t get all gooey afterwards.  But that’s not the only reason I love them.  They

  •  Are easy to hold
  • Cut around fussy shapes beautifully
  • Come with a blade protector so the tip doesn’t get damaged
  • Get into all the tight corners
  • Are super sharp
  • Retail for just $18.50
  • Come in the New Consultant kit

I have more scissors than I care to count but these ones are the best for my paper crafting.  Order yours here.

A few of my favourite things… CTMH Ruler

This one is for all my perfectionists and for those of you who can’t get things in a straight line no matter how hard you try!  I love my Close To My Heart Ruler (Z1471).

I use this tool on every page I create.  Here is why I love it…

  • The upper edge is marked in 1/8″ increments which allows for very accurate measuring
  • The upper edge has a metal strip reinforcing it so if you cut with a blade, you won’t damage the ruler
  • The measurements are shown across the full width and length of the rule by grid lines.  This allows you to line a grid up with the edge of a paper or photo and get an exact spacing for the next element on your page
  • It is see through so all your elements underneath it can be seen
  • It’s 14″ long so extends beyond your cardstock or scrapbook page
  • The lower edge has a set of holes for creating stich guides – either a zig zag pattern by piecing every hole or a straight line by piercing alternate holes.  You can thread in the holes or add pen ‘stitching’.  This stitching guide is also great for lining up sparkles on your page.
  • It’s only $13!

A few of my favourite things… Versamat

My next few posts will feature some of my favourite CTMH tools.  Whether you have been scrapbooking and card making for a week or a decade, life is always easier with the right tools.  I have to tell you I own 4 cutting mats but when I tried the Versamat, I put all the other ones away and use this one all the time.

The Versamat  (Z1279) is so very versatile!  At just $20 it is a steal.  Here’s why I love it…

  • Your 12″ x 12″ cardstock fits inside the grid outline allowing you to see the measurements around the outside.
  • The print being white on a black background is easy to read at night and perfect for my aging eyes
  • The marks outside the paper mean I can align a ruler across my paper to get a straight line
  • The 45° lines make mitering a breeze at the corners of a square
  • I can use a cutting blade on this side
  • When I flip the mat over I have a spongy side perfect for stamping on.
  • The sponged side also means my mat has a bit of give when I am press down on adhesives to ensure a good bond

Click here to order your Versamat.  You’ll be so glad you did.
