Embossed accents
I have a new toy! My little green Cuttlebug is proving to be so much fun to hang out with. It works with the CTMH embossing folders to add a textured pattern to flat papers. There are 5 folders to choose from. Take a look at them here. The folders will work with other brands of embossing machine, I just like this one because it is so compact and easy to use (and I got a great deal on it because I'm a consultant).
I have 2 cards featuring embossing to show you today. The first features a subtle tone on tone effect. I love the texture this provides without overwhelming the small elements that feature in the design. I used the Chevron embossing folder (Z1925) and daisy white cardstock. The sentiment comes from Balloon Talk, this month's Stamp of the Month, and is stamped using Archival Black Ink (44751). This ink gives a really rich colour. Alcohol Markers were perfect for adding the stitching effects.
My second card is based on a design from the Originals Card Confidence Book. I don't know where I'd be without it! Card making is not intuitive for me and I need to copy rather than create from scratch. I used the Quatrefoil embossing folder for this one - I think this is my favourite embossed pattern. The birthday cake stamp comes from Belated Birthday (B1442). To create the bow on the Slate Polka Dot Washi Tape (Z1817) I simply folded the tape back on itself, trimmed the ends and twisted. I attached it with Memory Book Glue Dots (1772) - they hold dimensional elements really well.
I have found the best adhesive to secure embossed cardstock is the Broad Tip Bonding Memories glue pen ( 1522) It gives good coverage over the lower profiles of the textured cardstock and your design won't fall off the front of your card.
Come along to one of my classes if you'd like to have a play with the Cuttlebug. It does come with a warning... "New addictions are likely to develop when using this machine"
