Let your photos shine on the page
Have you ever found yourself with a collection of stunning close up photos that just need to shine on your layout? That’s how I felt looking at these macro photos my husband took on a recent walk in the Wireless Hill Reserve just out of Perth, Western Australia.
The flowers came in many different colours and looked great on a stark white background. I decided to keep the layout simple and leave the photos ‘bare’ on the base page – no mats, no decorations around them.
Nearly Bare pages are perfect for time poor scrapbookers
Pages like this come together quickly. Simply crop the photos to regular sizes and arrange on the base page. A little pen work around them acts like a photo mat and journalling written straight on the base page does not fight for attention with the images.
This leaves you time to create one eye-catching decorative element on the layout. In this case, a title banner made with the Buildable Tags and Slim Alphabet Thin Cuts.
The facing page has a black strip top and bottom to tie it in with the left hand page.
Create your title banner
- Begin with an anchor. The black strip provides a strong contrast to the bright colours of the Hip Hip Hooray papers, acts as a divider on the page and a place for the tags to sit. Dovetail the ends.
- Simply grab a few co-ordinated prints and some co-ordinating plain cardstock to cut 5 large and 6-9 small tags. The number will depend on the length of your title.
- Mix and match prints to add the hole reinforcements on each tag. Then draw a line around the inside edges of each tag. I used black pen for the coloured tags and white gel pen for the black tags.
- Layer as shown on the black strip and draw a white line around it, breaking the line each time you meet a tag.
- The Slimline alphabet thin cuts are perfectly sized to fit on the small tags. If your title has a second word, write it on the black strip using white gel p
Add your story
Photos like this often miss out on a story. People believe no words are needed but I disagree. It’s always nice to tell a little about where they were taken and then what your emotional response to the actual photo subject is.
